Shardé N. Chapman, PhD is a photographer and creative director working between Detroit and Houston. She is inspired by telling stories that reflect marginal identities and subcultures. In her photography she attempts to create eye-catching scenes in unlikely places with unlikely things.
Originally from Orlando, Florida, Shardé attended Rhodes College with a degree in Religious Studies, later going on to earn a Ph.D. from Rice University in Religion with a focus is African American religion. She currently divides her time between creating and teaching African American Studies (focus on religion) and Women and Gender Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy. A long time educator, she has focused her efforts in underserved communities and elevating the voices of Black people and other persons of color.
